  • large numbers of mosquito larvae observed at this site.
  • water was a iron (burnt orange) in colour upstream and downstream of Coalmine Road.  This was not seen at other monitoring sites. 
  • Upstream of Coalmine Road, the top pH was 3.41 and the dissolved oxygen <5mg/L.

  • Observed a plume of black sediment after the weighted rope hit the bottom of the estuary.  It smelt rotten too.
  • An oily film of iron loving bacteria could be seen on the surface of the water.
  • Observed iron tinted water upstream of Coalmine Road.  There was also black ooze on the bottom.
  • top pH upstream of Coalmine Road was 3.26
