Overview

Estuary Wye River Estuary
Site Wye River Mouth Condition
Observation ID #17734
Date and Time Saturday 3rd October 2026 10:20am
Approved Approved

Notes

The rough sea state was the result of the wind rather than swell. We have had 89mm of rain in the catchment although only 5mm locally. The estuary is muddy from the silt being carried down the river which is flowing rapidly.  Included are photos taken later in the day while the river was in flood. Also some photos taken a day later to show the river channel and exposed steel and pylons in the river channel under the GOR bridge. We have written to DTP many months ago and a follow up letter about the danger of these pylons which are remnants of the old bridge. The new bridge was constructed and completed at the end of 2025 however these pylons were left there. They are a hazard for children playing in the river and environmentally unsound, large trees brought down in floods get snagged in the pylons.
